Changes & Softball...

I thought about writing about the change that Chip and Felix were forced to make long and hard the last two days. I guess I’ll touch on it briefly. By now everyone’s read about the team having to shut down the 40 Cup car for now, and quite a few employees at Chip Ganassi Racing w/ Felix Sabates being laid off. I saw Chip and Felix today, and they were both pretty torn up about it. The whole shop is. It’s something that nobody wanted to see happen. I was very fortunate in my role as test team driver/spotter/Nationwide driver wasn’t changed.

So to my friends that are now off to other things: good luck to you. You will be missed. It was my pleasure to work with all of you for the 3 ½ years I was able to, and please stay in touch.

On to a lighter subject: Softball. We’ve got a nice little softball team over at CGRwFS that was actually funded by Mr. Bryan Clauson. I took on the role of managing it, and the team is a mix of all sorts of employees at the shop. We had a decent regular season ending up 8-4 with a #4 seed headed into the playoffs. It’s a double-elimination tournament, and last week (which was the first week of the playoffs) we lost our first game to Hendrick and had to win our second game that night against Red Bull, which we won late in the game. This week most of our starting players weren’t able to make it due to traveling to Daytona. Our stand-in guys did an absolutely awesome job, and we beat Gibbs 24-9 to stay alive another week. Player of the week goes to my pal, your kevinhamlin.com webmaster, at center field, number 9…JUSTIN FIEDLER! He hit an in-the-park homer in the 4th to put us up by 15 which ended the game.

We’re up against MWR’s #2 team next week. If we manage to win, we’ll play either Hendrick again or RCR. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading.

I know that I've been behind on my updates and I apologize, so here you go...

Life just keeps getting busier and busier for us. With the added CTS races in the #4 truck for Bobby Hamilton Racing he's been gone every weekend for the last couple of months. I'm definitely not complaining though - bring on more races anytime! I've only missed one race this year - Kentucky a couple of weeks ago. That was tough, but my good friend Jessica came over and watched it on TV with me. It's never easy to be at home while he's racing, but having friends around makes it a lot better, so "Thanks Jess!"

Milwaukee was a blast last weekend. Kevin's birthday was that Friday and the garage closed early, so we were able to go to a Brewers baseball game with some of the guys from the team. We had a great time and they won! Saturday was really busy since it was a one day show - practice early, qualifying and then the race. It sure makes for a long day, especially since I had an early morning flight back to Charlotte Sunday morning. Ughhh, but I made it thank goodness!

Well we're off to Memphis this weekend and I'm really excited. Maybe we'll even have some extra time to check out the city!

P.S. I also want to thank everyone that has sent out their congratulations and well wishes since we announced that we're expecting. It means so much to us and we'll be sure to keep everyone updated along the way!
