Nebraska R&R

Hey everyone,

We just got back from a little family vacation in Nebraska . Man, what an awesome time. I tell people were on vacation visiting family in Nebraska , and I get the “I thought you were from Seattle ?” line. We are. Mandi ’s mother moved from Humphrey , NE (pop. 700 give or take) to the Seattle area when she was 19. So Mandi ’s aunts, uncles, cousins, Granny, late grandpa Ray and god son are all in Nebraska . One of Mandi ’s cousins was getting married so we used that as a great reason to get out there for a week.

The wedding was great, the reception even better and the trip was really relaxing. We stayed with Granny, and the TV was only on a couple of times. Our cell phones wouldn’t work out there, and there was no internet. Talk about being disconnected from the world back home, but we needed it. We drank a few beers while there ( Newcastle is really hard to find out there), played 3 rounds of golf (more on that here in a sec) and swam (I was the only person over 18 doing flips off the diving board, but heck – I was on vacation.)

On to the golf. Mandi went with us the last round, and left Grace with the ladies back at Grannies. I let Mandi drive the golf cart, not the greatest idea in the world. I needed my helmet and HANS device. She ran through a group of trees and about took my head off (complete with a tree branch stuck in the roof of the cart,) she jammed my leg in between two carts, and she spun the cart out more than…well, she spun it out a lot. There’s also the story of a lens in her sunglasses popping out, and her not noticing for a good 5 minutes she was riding around with only one in the glasses. That was probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed. Now that I think of it, I really hope nobody from Steepleview Golf Course reads this…

We snuck the vacation in between two tests. We’re going to St. Louis next week working on some stuff with the Cup car. I’m really excited, The Lou is my favorite track and it’s been a little while since I’ve been there. Will be good to run around that place again.

As I mentioned before, I’m hounding Mandi about doing a blog. She says it’s not interesting unless she’s traveling with me, cause not it would only be about changing Grace’s diapers and going to Target everyday. She hasn’t forgotten about it, but promised me when we race again she’ll do another blog.

See ya!

I know that I've been behind on my updates and I apologize, so here you go...

Life just keeps getting busier and busier for us. With the added CTS races in the #4 truck for Bobby Hamilton Racing he's been gone every weekend for the last couple of months. I'm definitely not complaining though - bring on more races anytime! I've only missed one race this year - Kentucky a couple of weeks ago. That was tough, but my good friend Jessica came over and watched it on TV with me. It's never easy to be at home while he's racing, but having friends around makes it a lot better, so "Thanks Jess!"

Milwaukee was a blast last weekend. Kevin's birthday was that Friday and the garage closed early, so we were able to go to a Brewers baseball game with some of the guys from the team. We had a great time and they won! Saturday was really busy since it was a one day show - practice early, qualifying and then the race. It sure makes for a long day, especially since I had an early morning flight back to Charlotte Sunday morning. Ughhh, but I made it thank goodness!

Well we're off to Memphis this weekend and I'm really excited. Maybe we'll even have some extra time to check out the city!

P.S. I also want to thank everyone that has sent out their congratulations and well wishes since we announced that we're expecting. It means so much to us and we'll be sure to keep everyone updated along the way!
